It’s not easy installing green: Linoleum flooring installation

If you want durable flooring that is attractive and made entirely out of natural materials, linoleum is an option that you should consider. Because of the nature of the pigmentation process, each floor will also have unique coloration, giving you flooring that is as unique as it is natural. Plus, given that it has been used as flooring for over 150 years, you can be assured that you are having a product installed in your home that is tried and true and will likely be around for many, many more years.

Naturally made

Linoleum flooring is made from linseed oil (hence the name) that is extracted from a flax plant. Added to the oil are wood flour and the resin found in pine tar and then it is colored with 100% natural pigments. The final step is that the formula is laid onto a jute backing to create a sheet flooring that is suited for both residential and commercial applications.

Durable

When properly maintained, linoleum flooring provides a very strong and durable surface that can withstand the wear and tear of a busy household. They also handle water well, and the material has anti-microbial properties which will help you keep your home cleaner and healthier than other alternatives. As a bonus, this flooring is also naturally non-conductive and flame retardant. That means they will not build up static and they will not catch fire if exposed to a flame. Due to these many benefits, you can expect your laminate flooring to last 30 to 40 years.

Installation

For a linoleum floor to look its best and provide you with a long lifespan, professional installation is a must. For this reason, we, at Galaxie Floor Stores, have installers that specialize in this type of flooring. They will also be happy to explain every step in the process as we want your experience with us to be as educational as it is enjoyable.

A smooth subfloor is a key to a clean install of any sheet good. Thus, our installers will pay special attention to ensure that you have a smooth subfloor that is free of any damage that might create problems in the future. If necessary, we will install a new subfloor for your linoleum installation.

It is a glued down product, which means that even once the floor is laid, you will want to plan to stay off of the floor for about 24 hours for the glue and sealants to completely dry and set up. In some cases, you may want to have your seams welded rather than just laid flush. These welds provide a bit of a tiled look to the floor and further bond the area between the sheets of linoleum against moisture.

With people beginning to turn more and more toward natural products and green solutions, we, at Galaxie Floor Stores, think a linoleum flooring installation will become more common. If you are interested in exploring this option, why not stop by one of our two locations, either in Apple Valley, MN or in Bloomington, MN. One of our knowledgeable sales associates will be happy to show you what options are available to you. We also serve the wider Minneapolis area, including Apple Valley, Bloomington, Burnsville, and Eagan. We think you will be glad you came to us for your linoleum flooring installation.
